(As the crisis in mainstream journalism proceeds, with readership down and layoffs up, it occurs to me that first principles are being forgotten. So here’s my two cents of free advice—can all the consultants and write from your gut. You may or may not “succeed,” as success is defined in this world, but at least you can look at yourself in the world. Besides, in time, if you act otherwise, people will be able to spots yours as the phony enterprise it is.)
